Many golf carts are stolen every year.

In addition to theft recovery you may want to track where the golf cart is on the course, or area.

A real-time golf cart GPS tracker gives you all of this, as well as geo-zone, motion alerts.

You can get an alert when the golf cart has left a certain area. or has returned in an area.

In this article, I’ll discuss the different GPS devices you could use for tracking as well as the costs.

You might also be interested in GPS trackers specifically designed for golf bags, as these can offer additional security for your golfing equipment.

Install a GPS Tracker in your Golf Cart

You can put any one of the trackers mentioned below in your golf carts by hiding it, but most likely you would want to hardwire the tracker so it is permanent and you won’t have to take it out to charge it.

It would be best to hook it directly to the battery system of the golf cart.

First Install a Voltage Reducer

If you have an electric golf cart, then you have a 36, 48, or 75 volt battery system. You will need a converter to provide 12 volts for the GPS tracker.

Your golf cart may already have a fuse panel with the correct voltage, maybe the cart has a USB connector to plug your phone in.

If you have a gas cart, then you have a 12v battery just like a car. You could connect the GPS tracker power cable directly to that battery or fuse block.

How to Mount the GPS Tracker

If you are using a phone as a tracker you could use a waterproof case that also has strong magnets like the one below:

Cell Phone Waterproof & Magnetic Case

Then you could put the case just about anywhere, cell phones will even track inside metal boxes, unlike other GPS trackers.

Here is a link to the waterproof case.

When you hardwire the phone to the golf cart battery system, you would just drill a small hole in the waterproof case to not pinch the USB cord.

Install near the Power Block

Installing near the power block will make running power to the tracker very easy. Or even near the golf cart solar charge controller, if you have one.

Conclusion

There are many options when selecting a golf cart GPS tracker. Size, features, and cost. Many people were surprised when they realized they could use their old cell phones and get a cheap data plan.

With a voltage converter you would connect the tracker to the fuse panel just like a car GPS tracker.
